January 31 Children's book:Your Personal PenguinA lovely book that i bought...it is called Your Personal Penguin by Sandra Boynton. Its actually a children's book but i think its a book suitable for all ages. Its a bout a penguin trying to "promote" himself to a hippo . The Penguin keeps telling the hippo what he would do anything for and with the hippo if only the hippo would pick him to be his personal penguin. You can even download the song from the website!! How cool is that! A song for a book!
The illustrations are really funny with the contrast between the large hippo and the little penguin. The penguin is always illustrated as an eager to please sort of character while the hippo has a "i-don't -know-what's wrong-with-u" look.
However, i think the book does reflect something much deeper than a penguin and a hippo. Perhaps its trying to say that it doesn't really matter if two people are as different as a Penguin and Hippo and love does indeed conquers all. Perhaps we do need to at times believe that somewhere out there in a world of penguins, there may be just one who would like to be my personal penguin...no one else but mine! January 29 Ideas: Birthday for children!!Children's birthday are always very exciting (though i'm not sure at times who is more excited, the adults or the child!)
Bought this book at Popular for less than $10!! (It was buried among some other craft books and on special offer!!)Its great for those who are planning a party for children and can't afford to hire a professional party planner.
The book has everything planned out for you! The theme, food to be served, party games and activities, decoration and they will even teach you how to make the birthday cake!! Ideas in the books can also be used for other events or occassions.
For those of us who are not so adventurous at baking, you may want to consider ordering your birthday cakes from Smiling Orchid located at Ghim Moh. They do make wonderful birthday cakes for children! Barney, Winnie the Pooh, Dora the explorer,You name it, they can make it! I have even seen a 3D Noah's Ark and all the little animals sitting in the ark!!!
However, for those of you who are considering ordering a 3D Barney cake(or any other character) be warned!!YOu may want to cut the cake out of sight of the birthday child! Imagine the horrors of having to be-head Barney in front of the children!!!
